Goals

The primary goals of this web site are to:

  1. Publish a cohesive framework of open software and testing tools, reusable XML schemas and schema development guidelines to promote consistency and usability across multiple working groups and organizations.
  2. Use an open work process for individuals, companies and industry organizations to review and comment on existing software tools and schemas and to submit new and modified XML software tools and schemas for review and adoption by subject area working groups and deployment by the industry in software systems.
  3. Provide, at all times, the best available open software tools and XML schemas for use in software implementations by the capital facilities industry.

We aim to provide support and reference materials for the use of XML in the life cycle of capital facilities. cfiXML currently focuses on technical descriptions of facility items (such as pumps, heat exchangers and other equipment items) that participate in larger business processes such as Request for Quote, Quote, Purchase Order, etc., whether these processes are being managed through traditional business methods such as email attachments or through broader e-commerce initiatives that use XML messaging architectures.

The measure of our success will be the number of organizations, applications and software packages, new or existing, that can electronically share common information using the XML schemas published here.
